June 2007 :: 20 Jun 2007
June has been a very busy month at Browning Farms. We have been busy with our three year olds - getting them back under saddle and preparing them for the show season ahead. Shakir went to his first show in May at the Albert Junior Young Riders Show - although he wasn't entered in any classes, this was his first trip away from home and he handled the noise and excitement of the show grounds like a true gentleman. Shakir has been under saddle consistently since April and has remembered everything from his start last summer. Shakir is level headed and hard working, he learns quickly and is eager to please his rider. Shakir went to the CSHA sponsored Free Jumping Clinice with Bob Henselwood on June 18th and impressed the audience with his fluid movement, style and form over the jumps. Bob commented that this was a horse worth developing as a jumper. We were delighted with Shakir's performance and the calm with which he faced this unique situation. Shakir currently stands 15.1hh, (we expect him to mature to 16hh) and he displays a lot of heart for a small horse. Shakir would excell in Jumping and Dressage and is truly a versatile, good-natured young horse. |

His jumping skill is becoming much more developed and he approaches the jumps willingly, and displays an excellent attitude in the ring. We are looking forward to the outdoor jumping season, where Garamond will again begin at Spruce Meadows in May.

|
| Ever Essence F.E.I. 4 Year Old Reserve Champion Alberta Provincial Dressage Championships 2006
|
Essa had a wonderful experience at the Provincial Dressage Championships in the fall of 2006 finishing with a Reserve Champion title in her division after only 5 weeks of training with Janet Hambly- Adams of Carousel Stables. Essa is now in full time training with Lauren Evans under Crystal Kroetch and is hoping to compete in the F.E.I. 5 Year Old Division in 2007. Browning Farms purchased Essa in the fall of 2002 and are very pleased with the young horse she has grown into. Essa is willing and hard working with elastic movement and 3 beautiful gaits. We believe she has a strong future ahead of her in Dressage.
|
| Garamond II Fall 2006
|
Meanwhile our newly approved CSHA Stallion, Garamond II is showing promise in the jumper ring under Jim Ifko of Paramount Stables, Dewinton, Alberta. Garamond had a very successful start to his riding career, winning a Dressage Canada Bronze Meadal for Dressage as a three year old with an overall score for 2005 of 72%. He was shown in Dressage in the F.E.I. 4 Year Old Division under Crystal Kroetch, earning the Championship in both the Western Regional Finals and the Provincial Finals.At his STallion Inspection in October of this year Garamond was very impressive in the free jump - earning a score of 85% on that portion of his evaluation. Garamond is a powerful young stallion and shows an extreme natural talent for jumping. He is following in the foot steps of his very successful Great Grandsire Rio Negro, and carrying on the Hanoverian "G" line reputation for potential in the jumper ring. Garamond is scheduled to attend his first jumper show in February of 2007 at Spruce Meadows. We are confident that this will be the beginning of a long and successful jumping career. Garamond II sired 2 incredible foals in 2006 and will be standing to a limited book for 2007. |
CSHA Stallion Inspection 2006 :: 8 Oct 2006
|
| Garamond II at CSHA Inspection
|
We had a lovely day for the Stallion Inspection and our thanks go out to Lori Jameson of Klondike Victory Farm for hosting the 2006 CSHA Inspection. We were delighted to have Garamond approved for breeding. He passed with an 85% for jumping ability and impressed Bob Henslewood and the other inspectors with his natural ability for jumping. Garamond received scores in the 80% range for conformation. His overall score of just over 73% shows that he didn't impress the inspectors with his movement on that day; however his repeatedly high scores ( 70% and higher) in the Dressage ring are a testimony to his ability to move and the quality of his gaits. At the Provincial Championships in Red Deer last month the FEI judges gave him an 80% for quality of movement in dressage. We look forward to Garamond's future as a competition horse and sire.PHOTO[Garamond October 7, 2006] |

Garamond is in full time training with Pan Am Games nominated trainer Crystal Kroetch of Carousel Stables in Cochrane, Alberta.Sequila, our 4 year old CSHA mare, in training with Janet Hambly Adams, also of Carousel Stables, was equally successfull in the 4 year old classes. Sequila took Reserve Champion in the Western Canadian Championships with an overall score of 64% and third place in the Alberta Provincial Championship with a combined score of 67%, all of this with only 5 weeks of training. We look forward to continued success for these two youngsters and are looking forward to Garamond's CSHA Stallion Inspection on October 7, 2006 at Klondike Victory Farm in Central Alberta. Where did the summer go? :: 22 Aug 2006
PHOTO[BF Gaetana, Garamond's 1st foal 3 months] I can't believe we are at the end of August already - the summer just flew by! Things have been very busy around the farm, this year's foals are already halter broken, and have been through their first baths and a visit from the farrier. Dorann, Jet, Jeannie and Gretle are taking a year off from foaling and have been started back to work. The foals are very surprised when mommy gets saddled up, and they are having quite a bit of fun galloping around while mom is busy working. PHOTO[Dorann and Wynn]. |
Last arrival for 2006 :: 10 Jul 2006
July 3rd 2006 was a very emotional day at Browning Farms, we lost our Hannoverian broodmare, Agave, to a severe colic that proved inoperable. We said good-bye to Agave at 4 am in the morning and returned home to find that Poplar Symphony had foaled a beautiful filly. Our saddness at losing Agave was softened by our joy at our new filly Gavae II named after her aunite Agave. Sometimes life just works out that way.

Our other broodmares, Dorann and Jet are going to enjoy a year off and under saddle. We look forward to raising our babies, training our youngsters and keeping busy in the show ring. |
More New Arrivals :: 19 Jun 2006

|
May 29, 2006 was an exciting day at Browning Farms - it marked the birth of BF Gaetana the first foal of our young stallion HORSE[Garamond]. It looks like Garamond will be as successful in the breeding barn as he has been in the showring.So much for all those late night check-ups - Jeannie, HORSE[Rio Lamada], prefers to have her babies in daylight! This was a much anticipated foal and Garamond and Jeannie have not disappointed. BF Gaetana is a very gentle, beautifully proportioned, large boned filly. She displays lovely movement and has the perfect conformation for the Jumper Ring. We look forward to an exciting future for this little girl. Garamond's second foal is due in mid June and we are also anticipating the arrival of 2 more HORSE[Glueckspferd] babies. |
